Anyone who is interested to conserve and promote the wildlife of Naval Hill and Franklin Game Reserve, as a whole, is welcome to join “Friends of Franklin”!

Projects

Fence Patrol

The fence of Franklin Nature Reserve needs to be patrolled regularly and any needed maintenance will have to be reported.

Food & Water

It must be ensured that sufficient feed and water is available to the game at all times

Wildlife Management

Sustainable natural resource and wildlife management

Annual Census

Yearly wildlife and vegetation censuses (“stocktaking”), etc.

Ecological Restoration

Ecological restoration of Naval Hill, such as to clear alien invasive plants, reintroduce locally extinct species and re-establishment of natural ecological systems

Historical Restoration

Accurate historical restoration of the famous White Horse of naval Hill

Stop Erosion

Hands-on experience and labour to combat soil erosion which is currently prevailing on Naval Hill

Make a Way

Volunteers to help with the build of pathways / hiking in order to promote scenic walks in Franklin Nature Reserve

Research

Research in order to determine the veld stability and grazing capacity of Franklin Nature Reserve

Viewpoint Deforestation

Assistance with the manual deforestation of bushes overcrowding the viewpoints and especially adjacent to the main public roads
